It has been quiet a while since I have updated this blog. A lot of you know that I desire to be in Africa, for whatever reason the Lord hasn't opened that door. I'm not one to just sit around on stuff that I really feel passionate about.
So I am looking into some sort of mentoring program. I would really like to mentor inner city students/youth. I say inner city, but what I mean are kids that live in places where there is very little hope.
If you know of any programs besides the Boys and Girls Club or Young Life please let me know!
The Bible tells us the Christian life is hard. No where does it say you'll be bless financially or have great health, that is just crap that you hear from preachers in America who are abusing their positions. BUT, that's not what I wanna talk about today. I'm gonna try to not get into the prosperity crap.
If the Christian life is hard when is the last time that you or I as a Christian had it REALLY hard? I can't think of ONE time in my life. I can hardly think of ONE hard time in lives of people that I know or my family knows. None of us have been persecuted for Christ. Most high school pastors will say that if you go to school wearing your jesus t-shirt and people make fun of you then you have been persecuted. ha.
Now I'm not saying high school/middle school wasn't tough. Kids are mean some of the meanest stuff I heard was in school. Some of the ugliest things said to me were in elementary and middle school. But I'm a quick learner and that's why i'm such a smart alec today. haha... but seriously it is. I learned how to jab back emotionally and how to infuriate or even how to defuriate people around me.
But that wasnt persecution. Not persecution like we read about in the Bible. No one is coming to stone us for preaching about God or saying we're a Christian. AND TRUST ME I'M JUST BASICALLY TALKING TO MYSELF. and frustrated with my own pansiness.
So why is it so hard for me to stand up or to live the way that Christ lived. Why am I not trying to constantly share with more people. In Africa it was a conversation starter! Here people say it's not our culture. Well that sucks because that means people who should be hearing about Christ aren't going to bc our culture is to polite.
Was Christ polite? Yes. I'm sure he opened the door for people and helped old ladies cross dirt roads. But he was always considering the Father in all things. In all his conversations. He didnt walk up to people, "are you saved?" "Are you saved?" "hey, nice to meet you! Are you saved?". But people knew he was. He brought it up in parables. The way he talked. They wanted to know more.
Do people wanna know more about Christ when they talk to me? Honestly... i dont know. and that is pathetic.
You're going to have to keep an open mind when you read this post (actually that's not to different from any other posts).
It really messes with my head when people talk about how they don't believe there is a God. They have all this "scientific" research to back up their mute points. It's funny that they their science fails them when you ask "How do you create something from nothing?". Well to create something you have to have... SOMETHING. That's just basic second grade Mrs. Thompson's class science.
He is God. It says in the Bible that we wont understand all things about him. But that we can see him everywhere. Think about it. If I created an ant farm, would the ants ever be able to fathom my greatness? No, they are ants, they are stupid. Sure they would come up with theories about how they got on this great any farm, how some great being put them here. Then the babies they had would come up with their own "scientific" theories, so on so forth. We're just basically stupid ants who have been created by a loving and very merciful God!
Just think about it. We have names for everything... skin, brain, trees, air, oxygen, etc. It's how we can successfully communicate. But we dont truly know what these things are. Sure we know that air is made up of oxygen and carbon dioxide and we breathe it in and it goes to our lungs and from there to our blood and gives us life. But the fact of the matter is we don't control any of that.
Our skin, brain, hearts, lungs, they all just work. There is very little rhyme or reason to why or how they work. Some people are born mentally retarded from very healthy parents. Some kids have heart attacks. Some healthy athletes in peak condition have aneurysms.
Take for instance cancer. We know what it looks like. But we don't know what causes it. Eating bad food, smoking, drinking all these things CAN lead to cancer but what about the guy who is totally healthy eats nothing but salads and nuts... does he not get cancer?
You have the guy who is a marathon runner, he runs everyday and his heart gives out at 26 then you have the smoker, the drinker and his heart gives out at 87. It's funny how that works. It's funny how we have NO control over any of it. We just have these names. We know who to prolong life. We know how to treat things. Scientifically "No two heart attacks are the same." is that not weird??
And science has HELPED us IMMENSELY! I'm NOT knocking science. Trust me! I go to my doctor like once a month. But how good is science if it's biggest impact is causing men and women to depend on science more than God?
How good is science if we believe that we know everything because of "science"?
I believe science is a huge blessing. I just believe it's crippling us into thinking we have some sort of control.
"By the sweat of your brow will you have food to eat until you return to the ground from which you were made. For you were made from dust, and to dust you will return."
Genesis 3:19
It is interesting that we were created from dirt and when our bodies give out... we are baried in dirt. Our bodies scientifically turn to dust.
if we have accepted Jesus then we are Christian, right? If Christ has awakened our eyes then we are his... we are Christian. That means that we are Christian no matter what we are doing.
When we are working, playing volleyball, blogging, milking a cow, playing scattergories... whatever we are doing we are Christian. Therefore we should be Christ like in all those things. Considering the Father in ALL those things. Do I? no. Not at all. There are times in my life where I just check out. Times when I just don't really feel like being a Christian.
Times when honestly I could care less about what Jesus would do. Times when I want to just be pagan, do whatever I want and 9 times out of 10 I do so.
That is where I'm weak. I have to keep in mind that I am a Christian. I cannot escape that and whenever I want to "check out" I have to call up someone surround myself with people that can walk with me. People that are going to influence me in the right direction.
I mean in the bible it says it is better that a man cuts out his eyes than fall into temptation.
